[Insert catchy title about Google here]

In a world that is thriving on the demands of people wanting to look up movie times, Google is there. In a world that is thriving on the demands of people wanting to find information on their potential employer, Google is there. In a world that is thriving on the demands of people wanting to find the thickness of ice on lakes in their area, Google is there. Nowadays, Google is everywhere whether it is on your cell phone, laptop, or MP3 player. There just is no way to get away from it. I would say I use Google at least ten times or more on any given day and half the time it is on my cell phone.
When I Google the term traditional media, it comes up with the Wikipedia page which refers to traditional media as a means of communication and expression that have existed since before the advent of the new medium of the Internet. Before Google, people actually had to get off their indolent ass and go to the library to look up a topic in books such as encyclopedias, history books, or old magazine articles. Now all one has to do is simply type some words into a Google search bar and Voila! There are a million odd pages that simply have the words or phrase located within that web page.
Google has also effected the medium of broadcasting in ways that may have cost some people their job. According to the Wall Street Journal, people are not going on-line to read the news because it looks like a newspaper but because "It's because they're getting something exotic and fresh and new and unfiltered. It's like eating French cheese. It hasn't been pasteurized. And it's good” stated Larry Ellin, an associate professor at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University.
Say there is some natural disaster that killed thousands, any one person can Google search it and find an outside source such as one from a different country. If more and more people were to do that, there would be no need for overseas correspondents. Networks may also choose to broadcast the news report that is coming in from that specific countries network to get up to the minute feeds and accurate stories.
Advertising techniques have come and gone; kind of like waves. Since the dawn of television, 30-second commercials have been the pinnacle of advertising. Bulova Watch Company was the first company to advertise on television. They paid $4 for the world's first television commercial which aired on July 1, 1941 before a baseball game between the Brooklyn Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies. Nowadays companies are paying millions of dollars for a simple 15 second slot even. During the Super Bowl especially, companies have paid up to $3,000,000 for a 30-second time slot. The larger the expected audience, the higher price a company is going to have to pay for a time slot. During this era, Google has made it easier to advertise for just as many people within a couple seconds of reading the material which has been placed before you. Two years ago, Google bought out Youtube for $1.85 billion. During Youtube’s existence, you could watch homemade videos advertisement free. Just recently did they add advertisements before watching a video. An advertisement doesn’t come up that often though. Hulu and network websites such as NBC or CBS now have the ability for viewers to watch whole episodes online. The only downfall is that you cannot fast forward commercials like Tivo has done for the general population.
Not too long ago, Google announced it is ready to compete in the cell phone industry. At some point in time someone at Google thought “Hey, why only leave Google search capabilities to computers only? Lets let people in the world have the ability in the palm of their hand.” Soon thereafter they proceeded to acquire Android Inc. Android is a mobile operating system; much like Windows 7 is to a PC and OS X Snow Leopard is to a Mac. The last couple years, Google and T-Mobile had a contract that made it so only T-Mobile was able to sell Google phones such as the HTC Dream or better known as the G1. It was the first phone to introduce the Android OS. And boy was it a hit. Just recently that contract ended and now the HTC Hero has come out for Sprint and it has the Android OS on it. For Verizon, the brand new Droid has Android for an OS. It has the ability to recognize multi-touch and search practically anything and everything on your phone.
There have been multiple instances where Google has had conflicts and confrontations with government policies and laws. In order for Google to embrace all of China’s users, they have decided to comply with the Chinese government and censor searches for the protection of its residents. With this new version of Google, there will be thousands of topics that will not pop up in search results such as the Independence of Taiwan and the 1989 Tiananmen Square massacre.
Since its conception, Google has practically created an industry of its own kind; with a search engine with over a billion possible search results, to cell phone operating, and creating personalized websites, Google is without a doubt, the leader in world wide searching. It is safe to say it is nearly impossible to live without, hear without, and be without Google.
